On June 2, 2026, the Observatory will host the I Permanent Seminar on Good Governance, an interdisciplinary academic meeting dedicated to examining the multiple factors that contribute to the emergence and consolidation of anti-democratic attitudes in contemporary political systems. By bringing together experts from various fields, the seminar aims to foster dialogue on the social, political, and institutional dynamics that undermine democratic values, weaken public trust, and contribute to processes of democratic backsliding (democratic backsliding).

The seminar will be structured around four thematic roundtables that will take place throughout the day. We cordially invite the submission of proposals exploring the relationship between anti-democratic attitudes and the erosion of democracy in connection with one or more of the following areas:

  • Integrity and (anti)corruption.

  • Public opinion and citizenship.

  • Security and crisis management.

  • Migration governance.

Interdisciplinary perspectives, comparative approaches, and both theoretical and empirical contributions that help deepen the understanding of these challenges will be particularly valued.

Submission of proposals: The deadline for receiving proposals is May 7, 2026. They may be submitted via the following link.

Publication: Accepted abstracts will be included in an open-access proceedings volume, aimed at ensuring broad visibility and dissemination of the works presented. Furthermore, a selection of the most outstanding papers will be considered for inclusion in a Special Issue of a scientific journal, providing participants with an additional opportunity for the publication of their research.

This seminar seeks not only to present ongoing research but also to create a space for scholarly exchange and collaboration on one of the most pressing issues in contemporary democratic governance.
